| this past march, as cherry blossoms seemed to fill every tree along every sidewalk and median strip, i was reminded of the last time they bloomed a year ago--when lilytiger and i got married. as i watched the blossoms bud, bloom, and fade away, i thought of how many times they must have done so before, and how they would repeat their cycle again next year and the year after.
and for the first time in a long time, i felt time move again.
for so long, my life has been a jumble of activities with no start and no end. there was work, and there was play, and with the northern californian climate as it is, every day was like every other day. i hadn't gained or lost any appreciable weight or hair. i had no new acronyms to append to my name. no deaths or births in the family. nothing to look forward to, yet nothing to regret, either.
but now, as i ponder the cherry blossoms, i recall the same blossoms at our wedding and all the things that have happened since then. and i know that soon enough, they will bud, bloom, and fade away again, and another year will have gone by. i have a marker now, its time-zero set to 5/6/06.
now i want to savor every moment. now time has meaning, and weight, and richness again. now time is moving again, even as i wish it would stop.
happy first anniversary, lilytiger!

| great, scientists have come up w/ a malaria-resistant mosquito. according to this news report, these mosquitos can outcompete their hapless natural cousins.
my question is: why would we want more of either type of these things?!?! why not develop malaria-resistant people?

| following up on the previous post...
i don't expect the buyer to keep the house at 992 square feet. however, based on the size at the time of sale, the price per square foot rivals: ING clarion on sand hill road in menlo park: $1000/SF 280 park ave in NYC: $1018/SF 530 oak st in mountain view: $1058/SF
crazy...

| how much is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath house worth in the bay area?
we placed a bid for this place. it's a 69-year-old, 992 square-foot house sitting on 7400+ square feet of land within walking distance of downtown mountain view. though small, the house was nicely maintained and the yard was well landscaped. offers were reviewed yesterday evening.
well, the dust has settled on the bidding. here's some stats: -number of bids: 6 to 8 -list price: $876,000 ($883/sf) -winning bid...
$1,050,000 ($1,058/sf)...that's $174,000 over list!
needless to say, we were outbid.
so a few things we learned from the experience: -bubble? what bubble? -there's some awfully rich people around here -we're not insane
